New Years Resolutions 2009

Wow, how quickly time flies! I really cant believe how fast 2008 went by. Anyway, with that, it is the time of the year to set resolutions. Now, like most people, I have set resolutions every single year and never once have I actually followed through. I am hoping this year will be different.

For some reason I am extremely excited about this year (more so than any other year previously). I think great things are going to happen, not only in my personal life, but business wise as well.

Anyway, here are my resolutions/goals for 2009. I will definitely be looking back at this post during the course of the year and keeping track.

  1. My first resolution is to follow through on my new years resolutions and achieve everything I want to achieve. What a great feeling it will be to look back, come the end of the year, and see that I have achieved everything I wanted to achieve!
  2. Launch my new blog template! (almost done)
  3. Make 365 blog posts this year. By the end of the year, I want to have at least 1 post a day (now, I might not do a post every day and if I dont, I will have to catch up with 2 posts the next day)
  4. Launch 12 new projects. That is 1 project a month. This is a big one for me. Being a developer, I need to get more of my work out on a constant basis. So I have planned to release at least 1: WordPress plugin, Web App, Adobe Air App, Facebook App, Something to do with Mobile, Something using an API, Something open-source (code library or something) and probably a few other things in between :)
  5. Write one of the above apps in Python and Django and another in Ruby on Rails.
  6. Finish all my first and left over second year modules of my Bsc Computer Science Degree.
  7. Start moving towards living in the cloud. Do this by using more online services and writing some nifty scripts to automate the process.
  8. Drive more traffic to this blog. I want to hit a constant 10000 unique visitors a month by the end of this year.
  9. Connect more with other developers and people in general. This includes utilizing social networks and tools better.
  10. Get something free from somebody who liked my blog. Something like a startup t-shirt or gadget *hint hint*
  11. Monetize this blog with advertising (or some other stream of income). The primary goal of this blog is for me to create good content, link to and launch projects that I am working on and to connect with people. Monetization is definitely not the main goal, but I think if my content is good enough it is only fair that I monetize it :)
  12. Stop doing client work. This is a big one for me. I really want to stop taking on clients. Clients have been good to me, but I am no longer in the service business and it is time to let them go. What this means is that I must finish all the current work with clients that I have and stop taking on new jobs (I will rather pass the jobs onto other freelancers)
  13. Travel to europe. My family lives in europe and Megg and I have planned to do a trip to visit them and some of her family at the end of the year.
  14. Live healthier! I want to start gyming and doing more excercise. I also need to start eating better and cut the amount of junk food I eat.
  15. Drink only water for the whole year! I’ve done this in the past for like 6 months and it was one of the healthiest times of my life!
  16. Work harder and smarter.
  17. Start saving. Need to start a savings account and save for the future.
  18. Do an update at the end of the year and see how I progressed.

And thats about all I can think of for now. I might add one or two more at a later stage this week but for now that is sufficient.

So, what are your resolutions/goals for 2009?
