New Years Resolutions 2009
Wow, how quickly time flies! I really cant believe how fast 2008 went by. Anyway, with that, it is the time of the year to set resolutions. Now, like most people, I have set resolutions every single year and never once have I actually followed through. I am hoping this year will be different.
For some reason I am extremely excited about this year (more so than any other year previously). I think great things are going to happen, not only in my personal life, but business wise as well.
Anyway, here are my resolutions/goals for 2009. I will definitely be looking back at this post during the course of the year and keeping track.
- My first resolution is to follow through on my new years resolutions and achieve everything I want to achieve. What a great feeling it will be to look back, come the end of the year, and see that I have achieved everything I wanted to achieve!
Launch my new blog template! (almost done)- Make 365 blog posts this year. By the end of the year, I want to have at least 1 post a day (now, I might not do a post every day and if I dont, I will have to catch up with 2 posts the next day)
- Launch 12 new projects. That is 1 project a month. This is a big one for me. Being a developer, I need to get more of my work out on a constant basis. So I have planned to release at least 1: WordPress plugin, Web App, Adobe Air App, Facebook App, Something to do with Mobile, Something using an API, Something open-source (code library or something) and probably a few other things in between
- Write one of the above apps in Python and Django and another in Ruby on Rails.
- Finish all my first and left over second year modules of my Bsc Computer Science Degree.
- Start moving towards living in the cloud. Do this by using more online services and writing some nifty scripts to automate the process.
- Drive more traffic to this blog. I want to hit a constant 10000 unique visitors a month by the end of this year.
- Connect more with other developers and people in general. This includes utilizing social networks and tools better.
- Get something free from somebody who liked my blog. Something like a startup t-shirt or gadget *hint hint*
- Monetize this blog with advertising (or some other stream of income). The primary goal of this blog is for me to create good content, link to and launch projects that I am working on and to connect with people. Monetization is definitely not the main goal, but I think if my content is good enough it is only fair that I monetize it
- Stop doing client work. This is a big one for me. I really want to stop taking on clients. Clients have been good to me, but I am no longer in the service business and it is time to let them go. What this means is that I must finish all the current work with clients that I have and stop taking on new jobs (I will rather pass the jobs onto other freelancers)
- Travel to europe. My family lives in europe and Megg and I have planned to do a trip to visit them and some of her family at the end of the year.
- Live healthier! I want to start gyming and doing more excercise. I also need to start eating better and cut the amount of junk food I eat.
- Drink only water for the whole year! I’ve done this in the past for like 6 months and it was one of the healthiest times of my life!
- Work harder and smarter.
- Start saving. Need to start a savings account and save for the future.
- Do an update at the end of the year and see how I progressed.
And thats about all I can think of for now. I might add one or two more at a later stage this week but for now that is sufficient.
So, what are your resolutions/goals for 2009?
