MobilePress – Enable The Mobile Web

Although it is a few days late, MobilePress has finally launched. What is it? MobilePress is a WordPress plugin that will turn your WordPress blog into a Mobile blog so that whenever someone visits your blog on a cell phone it will render a mobile friendly version of it.

MobilePress gives you the ability to set specific mobile themes for specific mobile web browsers and phones. For example you can make a custom theme that will display on the iPhone, Opera mini or Windows mobile. You really need to check it out to realize the full potential of the plugin.

I have spent my first few weeks at Younique working on this plugin with Denham Coote and Tyler Reed and launching it today was really exciting. There has been a lot of buzz and overall and it seems as if people are loving it. We still have a long way to go with it and have some really awesome features planned for the near future. Feel free to send us your suggestions :)

I check mobilepress in my site but don’t work with supercache enabled :(

    I love the idea.

I tried it in WordPress 2.5 and 2.7 on my http://www.daleisphere.com blog after hearing about it on the Wordpress podcast and it doesn't work.

Nothing comes up in the derault or iPhone template boxes. The yellow warning "MobliePress table does not exist!" keeps coming up. No matter how many times I click on the "Create!" button (assuming the button does anything) that message does not go away.

There needs to be a step-by-step Wordpress installation guide somewhere. I haven't found it. It certainly is not intuitive.

Do we need to create our own templates somehow? Are there not off-the-shelf templates that we can just use and tweak to start?

    …Dale

Not work with superchche! wait for solution

  • Adrian, January 9, 2009:

thanks for the plugin, but as TGspot says, version 1.0.3 does not work with supercache, which is a blocker issue for me. I’ll wait for your next release and check it out again, because I think that the idea is brilliant!

    my personal experience was:

    1) install (flawless)
    2) works on safari mac (ok)
    3) works on safari iphone (ok)
    4) works on IE win XP –> NOT OK –> I get the mobile version! idem for opera and firefox (mac and win), I get the mobile version, even if safari for mac shows the official website!
    5) disabled the wp-supercache plugin (ok)
    6) IE, Firefox and Opera show the non-mobile website (ok) –> but safari for mac started showing the mobile site for no reason! And since there was no cache working… I don’t understand.

there are some issues, probably in check.php… keep up the good work!

    Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the comments. We are working on a bunch of fixes. The reason you are seeing the Mobile version in Safari with no cache plugin enabled, could be because of the Safari cache. Try clearing that.

As for SuperCache, I have emailed Donncha and we will have to write a separate plugin for SuperCache so that it works with MobilePress. We are working on some ideas and will be launching an update soon.

    Hi Dale,

Could you try installing the latest version. There was a bug in 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 and the new version should fix your issues.

  • Adrian, January 9, 2009:

Hi Matt, thanks for the reply, I tried that (clearing Mac Safari’s cache) and it did not help, don’t understand what happened. Again, thanks for your help! Your plugin rocks and I’m sure to use it in many different Wordpress blogs of mine as soon as it is available.

    I love this plugin.

I tried it in WordPress 2.7 on my site and it doesn’t work.
I don’t have any supercache plugin installed and am not using any special caching software.

Nothing comes up in the default or iPhone template boxes. The yellow warning “MobliePress table does not exist!” keeps coming up. No matter how many times I click on the “Create!” button (assuming the button does anything) that message does not go away.

I have installed version 1.0.3 and some other plugins…
    please help me…

I got to know about this plugin few days back and I installed it on my blog. The plugin works great. Though the downside is due to adsense or any advertisement code , it make your blog look ugly in mobile. If you are not using any adsense code around your blog posts. This plugin will be very handy to get an extra edge from mobile internet users.
