About Me

Matt GeriWhere to begin eh? My name is Matt Geri if you haven’t figured that out already, I am 22 years old and a budding young software developer living in Pretoria, South Africa. I have been interested in software development since I first got my hands on a computer and started developing games in qbasic. My other passions include technology, business, the outdoors, fishing, my girlfriend Megg (who has an awesome dance studio in Pretoria and Centurion) and living life :)

My Working Life

I am currently studying a Bsc in computer science part time at UNISA and working at TinyImpact as the Lead Engineer. Other than that, I spend my free time working on some of my own projects.

My Development Life

PHP is my current (scripting)language of choice and pretty much all the work I currently do is done with it. I am busy learning a few other languages such as python, ruby and c++. In 2009 I hope to write at least two apps with languages other than php.

My Tech Life

If you look on the right hand sidebar you will see a list of some of the technology I use on a daily basis. I am a huge fan of open source software and my current operating system is Ubuntu – now, that doesn’t mean I am against paid software. I will gladly purchase good software.

Why Do I Blog?

This blog has 3 main purposes. They are:

  1. Outlet for me to write about my life as a software developer and to hopefully give back a little in the form of information.
  2. To connect with you! My goal is to connect with as many people through this blog and my social networks.
  3. To launch (and in same cases host) different projects that I am working on at different times.
